Wood WORKS! BC and the Local

Governments in the North

Last year's winner, Bovill Square in Smithers, BC

In 1998, when Wood WORKS! BC began its efforts to create a strong and vibrant wood culture in the province, it started in Prince George.  The task of advancing wood use in our province was both daunting and invigorating.

And the communities of the (then) North Central Municipal Association stepped up to join us in our efforts.

Prince George was the first city in the province to explicitly indicate their preference to build with wood.

Many northern communities have shown their commitment to wood and built wonderful projects from airports to information centres, bandstands to administration buildings.

More than 10 years ago, Wood WORKS! BC introduced the Community Awards program to recognize excellence in wood use by local governments.

This year at UBCM, we will once again present awards to local governments from across the province which have chosen to build with wood.

We encourage you to recognize and celebrate the success of your community's recently completed projects using wood. Nominations for the 2015 Community Recognition Awards are now open! The awards are presented annually to communities and regional districts that have been advocates for specifying wood use in a local project or through visionary initiatives that work toward building a culture of wood.

Nominated projects may be cultural, recreational or administrative; small or large. One project from each area association will be selected, and the community or regional district will be recognized and awarded at their area association luncheon at the 2015 UBCM convention in Vancouver in September.

If you know of a wood building or structure in B.C. that was completed by a local government in the last three years, please nominate it today! Criteria, information and the nomination forms for the 2015 Community Recognition Awards are available at www.wood-works.ca/bc

DEADLINE: August 28, 2015

Nominations now open – close on August 28, 2015

If you have questions about the nominations process or wood use in your next civic project, please feel free to contact us at 1 877 929 9663 ext. 5
